Daily Projects for week of March 14 - March 18, 2016

Here is the list of simple sewing projects for this week:

http://www.google.com

You will need the following supplies for all projects:
Ironing board or ironing surface and iron, fabric, cutting tools, cutting mat, scissors or rotary cutter.

If you have any trouble or do not understand the following directions, please feel free to contact me and I will help you resolve any issues.

Monday

6-1/2" Strip squares

One 6-1/2" square for base; several scrap pieces for sewing across center diagonally.
I use the first two from the middle that are at least 10", which spreads all the way from one corner to the other diagonal corner. I use my scraps and cut them 1-2" wide and at least 10" long.

Lay the first two strips across the diagonal, together, right sides facing each other. Then stitch them from one diagonal point to the opposite side using 1/4" seam. Open the fabric and press open.
Next, take the next strip and sew to the open edge of the fabric using 1/4" seam and continue sewing strips until you get to the end of the corner.
Then turn the square around and repeat the same on this side.

I use this method when I feel like sewing a little while but don't want to make anything in particular and then I stash them in a box and save them until I get enough of them to make a quilt, lap quilt, wall hanging, mug rug, mat or any project I might be able to use these on.

Tuesday

Coaster, cut six 8" squares of variety of fabrics

Scissors (or rotary cutter and ruler) for cutting fabric, 2-4 different fabrics all cut into 8" squares

Take 2 of the 6  - 8" squares and sandwich together. Take the remaining 4 squares and fold in half, press and then put one folded, pressed piece across the top of the square making sure the folded edge is facing center. Take second one and place in same manner on right side of square overlapping edge of first strip. Take third one and place on bottom in same manner placing it on top of previous one at corner and take last piece, folded edge inside, lift the upper left corner piece so you can lay it down in corner, then put that corner piece back down over last corner.  I know this sounds confusing but when you start following directions you will see what I mean.  If not, please contact me or see picture.

Wednesday

 Easy Four Patch
Link for suggested block:     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBfSWkdvlXA
This is a good link to see it before you try it from my directions.
This is an easy block to make. You can cut any size squares you like depending on what you want to make with it. But for today I would just cut four  2-1/2" squares.  Take two of them and sew them together and then press seam. Make another one with the last two blocks and press them. Now take both pieces, pin together and sew them together. Presto!! You have a four patch. This is also an easy block to make and stash for a quilt.

Thursday

Panel Borders

If you have a panel or want to make your own panel that will work, too.  When I make my "panels" I usually just use some pretty flower fabric or something bright with an item of interest and then use solid colors to put borders around it. You can also buy pre-printed panels that have birds, houses, cars, animals, etc. and you can use those if you wish.
Today's "panel" is an 18" square of whatever busy fabric you want to use. Than cut two contrasting fabric pieces that measure 18" x 4" strips for the top and bottom. Sew one 4" border strip to top of your 18" panel and one on bottom.  Then cut two 27" x 4" strips for the sides.  Sew them on each side, press and you are finished with your panel. These are good for wall hangings if you have a quilt or spread you want to compliment.

Friday

Fun day

** sharing tips, ideas, pics of finished blocks, suggestions for next weeks blocks;  pin cushions, mug rugs, anything you want regarding sewing.  And if you would like to make one of the blocks that you had issues with and want to practice, that's fine, too.

I am trying to get used to blogging and thought this might be a fun way to get started. If you like to sew, please join me!  Please feel free to complain, critique my directions, share, suggest or praise me in this attempt to share and learn.  I'm open to ideas that might improve this or do something different.  Thanks and happy stitching.

New Sewing of Daily Projects

March 12, 2016

Hi,

I'm trying to get rid of my stash because it is running me out of the craft room. I don't want to get rid of what I have left so I want to share my experiences with y'all and maybe let you know in advance what I'm making each week.  I'll be excited to share with you and hope you can dig into your stash and join me in creating whatever fun thing I can find.

I've given away more than half of the current stash to friends, relatives, people I met in the fabric store to make projects going overseas to the needy and anyone who asks for something particular that I might have.  I like bright colors and unique designs but I also use whatever I find but forgot that I had.

Tomorrow I will list 5 items I'll be making this next week.  I'm not sure how simple or how hard they will be for you but I like to try anyway.  Some simple things I have made in the past haven't turned out so well and other complicated things have gone well.

Oh well, lets see what I can find for tomorrow's list.  If you have any suggestions for me please let me know and I will try to make it and share the experience with you all.  Thanks, check back tomorrow.
